8 Questions to Ask When You Pull the 5 of Wands

Today on Magick with Melissa (CLICK HERE to see the 1/11/2020 episode) I talked about how to be kind ALWAYS. It’s a neat trick, but very effective.

AND I pulled our weekly Tarot card for guidance and healing. This week I asked, “How can we practice being kind to ourselves?”

FiveofWands

5 of Wands

The 5 of Wands speaks to competition, conflict, AND collaboration. Depending on how you look at it, any situation can take on the feel of conflict or of collaboration. It can also embody both energies, which is where competition comes in.

We tend to see competition as us and against them, but in reality, it’s an opportunity to use each other’s strengths and weaknesses to challenge ourselves to do better. We tend to push ourselves harder when we are competing. Why?

The simple answer is we want to win. But the more nuanced explanation is other’s provide us the catalyst to dig deeper than we thought we were capable of.

So how does this apply to practicing kindness? Well, think of it this way: when we find ourselves in conflict with someone else, we are being presented with the challenge to dig deeper to find a way to connect vs. compete. When our egos are screaming to be validated, it’s challenging to be kind. Get it?

If we can find a way to be kind in the midst of conflict, we are improving and excelling. In essence, we are winning.

Here are 8 questions you can ask to deep dive into the 5 of Wands:

1. Where is there conflict in your life right now?
2. What can you learn from this conflict?
3. Is there a way to turn conflict into collaboration?
4. Who are you in competition with?
5. What can you learn from other’s success?
6. How can you support yourself and others during current challenges?
7. What are you learning about working with others right now?
8. What challenges are preventing your from moving forward right now?

These questions are inspired by my own musings, as well as The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot.

Use these questions to process how you can be kinder to yourself and others during challenging times.

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull the 9 of Pentacles

Yesterday on 2021 Premier of Magick with Melissa (CLICK HERE to see the 1/04/2020 episode) I talked about what to do BEFORE you make those New Year resolutions. Check out the video to see what it is.

AND I pulled our weekly Tarot card for guidance and healing. This week I asked, “What can we do to help ourselves became more comfortable with who we are?” And the 9 of Pentacles was our answer!

NineofPentacles

9 of Pentacles

We’ve had our eye steadfastly focused on the future–what we want, where we’re going, what it’s going to be like when we get there–and we’re so close. But guess what? There’s a whole lot of abundance to celebrate RIGHT NOW.

It’s so easy to be focused on our goals to be richer, smarter, thinner, sexier, or more successful. It’s harder to stop and just be in the moment, appreciate how wonderful our lives our now.

So stop, look around, take in the life you’re building. It’s AH-mazing! YOU are amazing, just the way you are. If you need proof, start a “happy journal”. Write down three things every day that you love about your life and yourself. Include the little joys of your day and the things that surprise you.

Here are 8 questions you can ask to deep dive into the 9 of Pentacles

1. What is most important to you?
2. Do you believe you are worthy of your dreams?
3. When are the most happy?
4. What was the last achievement you took the time to celebrate?
5. How are have you come?
6. Are you working too hard?
7. How can you make time to appreciate the life you are building?
8. Despite all you have, do you feel like something is missing? What is it?

These questions are inspired by my own musings, as well as The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot.

Use these questions to process how you can appreciate yourself and your life more.

8 Question to Ask When you Pull The Hierophant

Today on Magick with Melissa (CLICK HERE to see the 12/28/2020 episode) I talked about the Full Moon and illuminating our self-limiting beliefs.

I also pulled our weekly Tarot card for guidance and healing. This week I asked, “How can we gain clarity around what we want to do as opposed to how others want us to act?” I pulled The Hierophant.

5. The Hierophant

The Hierophant’s message is to seek out a guiding authority to teach you what you need to learn. However, there are two schools of thought about who that “guiding authority” is.

First, there’s the traditional authorities: spiritual leaders and guides, teachers, government, and socially accepted structures. A simple message could be to “seek out an authority to learn from.” If you asked about a relationship, it might be time to make a formal commitment, like getting married.

The second, newer, school of thought is to become your own guiding authority. Break the rules, make your own, and get out from under the thumb of the establishment.

I think these two ideas can and should co-exist. There’s value in tradition and history. No need to throw out the baby with the bathwater. But it is also our responsibility to always be questioning authority. Our leaders shouldn’t get to maintain the status quo just because it’s “always” been that way.

We shouldn’t follow anyone blindly. We need to strike a balance between respecting tradition and refining our belief systems.

So the question we have to ask ourselves is when do we need to defer to those in authority and when do we need to follow our own inner guidance? Knowing which way to go can be tricky and requires some soul searching. Are we truly listening to our inner wisdom or letting our egos misdirect us? What limiting beliefs might be clouding our judgment? Does the authority figure have our best interest at heart?

Here are 8 more questions you need to ask yourself when you pull 5. The Hierophant:

  1. Do you listen to your inner wisdom or do you defer to others?
  2. Is your ego in charge of your life? How is that working out?
  3. Do you need to seek out a guide or teacher?
  4. How have you been playing it safe?
  5. How can you connect with Spirit?
  6. Are you throwing out convention without considering its value?
  7. What are you rebelling against?
  8. Do you trust yourself?

These questions are inspired by my own musings, as well as The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot.

Use them to help you get in touch with your inner guru.

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull The Wheel of Fortune

Today on Magick with Melissa (CLICK HERE to see the 12/21/2020 episode) I talked about Yule and its connection to Christmas, empowering women through canceling diet culture, and making Yule blessing ornaments.

AND I pulled our weekly Tarot card for guidance and healing. This week I asked, “How can we empower ourselves?” I pulled the Wheel of Fortune.

10. The Wheel of Fortune

This card reminds us that we are both masters of our destiny and subject to events and energies outside of our control. So while we must acknowledge our culture, our families, and our environments help to form us and direct our paths, we must also own our power.

And where does our power come from? Choices. What choice will you make today to change your fate? Sometimes, the best choice is to surrender to what is and go with the flow. Otherwise, we can end up depleting our energy fighting against tide.

Here are 8 questions you need to ask yourself when you pull 10. The Wheel of Fortune:

1. Are you getting in the way of your own success/happiness?
2. Why are you so afraid to let go?
3. What’s the worst that could happen if you surrender to this?
4. And if it does, how will you weather the changes?
5. How have you created your current situation?
6. Do you believe in fate?
7. What events have contributed to who you are today?
8. How can you accept and forgive yourself, others, and situations?

These questions are inspired by my own musings and The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot.

Use these questions to process how you can empower yourself.

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull 21 The World

At the end of every Magick with Melissa episode (click HERE to see the latest episode), I provide intuitive guidance by pulling a card from either an oracle deck or a Tarot card deck.

This past Monday (CLICK HERE to see the 12/7/2020 episode) after discussing how to change the way you feel through cultivating an attitude of abundance and gratitude, I asked “What do we need to focus on to become more of the magick we already are?” And I pulled . . .

21TheWorld

21. The World

This card reminds us that we ARE magick, that we are absolutely amazing just the way we are.

It also tells us that an important cycle has come to an end. In this case? It’s the end of the era of self-loathing and self-doubt. Wrap up this chapter in your life by promising to love yourself more and hate yourself less.

Whatever has been going on in your life, stop playing the victim of circumstances. Of course, bad stuff happens to us. Of course, it sucks. But we will never overcome adversity by insisting someone else is at fault.

I know this is not a comfortable idea to embrace. We get angry, we rage against the unfairness. Someone else put us in this situation so why is it left to us to rectify? Because it is. Plain and simple. We can never make anyone fix our problems, but we can save ourselves.

And that’s where ALL our power lies, in our own thoughts and actions. Nowhere else.

Here are 8 questions you need to ask yourself when you pull 21. The World:

  1. Do you believe in magick?
  2. If not, why not? What do you need to do to fully believe in your own magick?
  3. Who have you been blaming for your problems?
  4. What would happen if you took complete responsibility for your life as it is?
  5. How have you created or contributed to your current situation?
  6. What cycle is coming to an end?
  7. How can you create closure?
  8. How are you celebrating your success?

The last question is from The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot. The rest are from my own musings.

Use these questions to process what’s coming to an end for you right and how you can start to believe in your own power–your magick.

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull the Eight of Wands

At the end of every Magick with Melissa episode (click HERE to see the latest episode), I provide intuitive guidance by pulling a card from either an oracle deck or a Tarot card deck.

This past Monday (CLICK HERE to see the 11/30/2020 episode) after a deep dive into how to BE the magick you’re looking for, I asked what message the Universe had for us.

EightofWands

        Eight of Wands

And I pulled the Eight of Wands!

This is the time for action! What have you been waiting for? Because waiting time is O-V-E-R over.

You’ve got things to do, people to see, and places to go. This message is loud and clear, and there’s not much room for nuance.

So if you have NO idea what you should be doing or who you should be seeing, then it’s time to sit down and ask yourself a few questions. Or even if you have an inkling, take some time to get clear on your direction before you hop on your motorbike and race off.

Here are 8 questions you need to ask yourself when you pull Eight of Wands:

  1. What have you been waiting for?
  2. What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
  3. What are your priorities?
  4. Do you have clear goals?
  5. Have you been putting something off?
  6. If so, why?
  7. What do you need to feel comfortable about moving forward?
  8. What if you did it anyway?

These questions are in part inspired by The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot, and part from my own musings.

Use these questions to get pointed in the right direction and then go for it!

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull the Four of Swords

FourofSwordsAt the end of every Magic with Melissa episode (click HERE to see the latest episode), I provide intuitive guidance by pulling a card from either an oracle deck or a Tarot card deck.

This past Monday (CLICK HERE to see the 11/23/2020 episode) after having an AMAZING conversation with my guest, Courtney Young-Allison about how we change our lives, I asked for some general guidance.

And I pulled the Four of Swords!

You guys, I have been pulling this card over and over again since November 2019! Some day I’ll have to write a post about stalker cards, but for now, let’s just say I’m feeling beat over the head with this message to rest and heal. How much resting and healing can we need? Amiright?

Well, it can be a lot more than we like to admit. When there’s a lot of stress going on, rest is needed on a regular basis. And considering the year 2020 has been . . . well, we all ought to be making sure we’re getting plenty of sleep and unplugging from the news and the internet more often.

Set aside some time to decompress, to be alone, and to unwind. While binging Netflix in my PJs with a bag of popcorn and a glass of sangria is one of my faves, maybe it’s time to unwind with some calming music and a pot of soothing herbal tea, like chamomile.

Grab some crystals like selenite, lapis lazuli, and amethyst and do some introspective journaling. If you think you don’t have time for this kind of nonsense, that may be the problem. Maybe it’s time to slow down and “indulge” in some self-care before you rush into something that will only make things worse.

This is the time to re-evaluate how you approach reaching your goals and dealing with adversity. Is it working? or is it making you feel like day-old bread? Dried out and flavorless?

Are you ignoring symptoms that something physical is going on? What are those headaches, muscle pains, and stomach upsets really trying to tell you? If you’re worried, you have a right to be, but maybe it’s time to figure out how to cope better.

Here are 8 questions you need to ask yourself when you pull the Four of Swords:

  1. How can you make time for rest and relaxation?
  2. How can you reduce your workload?
  3. What needs to change to avoid burnout?
  4. Do you need some extra time and space before taking action?
  5. Have you been taking on too much? Do you feel burned out?
  6. How can you nurture yourself right now?
  7. What needs to be healed?
  8. What are you worried about and how can you use those worries?

These questions are in part inspired by The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot, and part from my own musings.

Use these questions to figure out if you have been taking the time to properly rest, and not just sleep. Are you headed for burnout, or already there?

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull 12 The Hanged Man

At the end of every Magic with Melissa episode (click HERE to see the latest episode), I provide intuitive guidance by pulling a card from either an oracle deck or a Tarot card deck.

This past Monday (CLICK HERE to see the 11/16/2020 episode) after having an AMAZING conversation with my guest, Courtney Young-Allison about how we change our lives, I asked for some general guidance.

And I pulled the Hanged Man!

I used to not like this card because I thought it automatically meant I had to wait for whatever it was I was chasing. And, well, I hate to break it to you, it does kind of mean that. But it’s so much more than that, too!

The Hanged Man appears when we need to step back, clear our heads and hearts, and get a fresh perspective. It also appears when we need to question our beliefs, our habits, and if there’s really anything more we can do. Sometimes, there’s nothing left to do except wait. And sometimes, our beliefs and patterns are what’s blocking us from getting what we want and it ain’t going to happen until we face this truth.

Like all Tarot cards, this card’s message is unique for each of us. The best way to explore what it means for YOU is to journal about it.

Here are 8 questions you need to ask yourself when you pull the Hanged Man:

  1. How can I change my perspective?
  2. How can I surrender the need to control the current situation?
  3. What is my truth?
  4. How can I allow myself to just be?
  5. Is there something in my life I need to release?
  6. What idea, belief, person, or thing am I grasping too tightly?
  7. Is there anything else I can do right now? Or do I need to let it be?
  8. What would it take to make peace with myself and in my own mind right now?

These questions are in part from The Field Notes by Chris-Anne, creator of the Light Seer’s Tarot, and part from my own musings.

Use these questions to figure out if you’re getting in your own way or maybe you just need to rest your brain more and give your soul a chance to speak.

8 Questions to Ask When You Pull the Ace of Wands

Every Monday on Magic with Melissa (click HERE to see the episode), I provide intuitive guidance by pulling a card from either an oracle deck or a Tarot card deck.

This past Monday (CLICK HERE to see the 11/9/2020 episode) after discussing the importance of conserving our attention and directing it toward ways to invest in ourselves, I asked:

How can we focus our attention so we can reap the biggest return on the investment of our energy?

And I pulled the Ace of Wands from the Light Seer’s Tarot, my latest favorite deck obsession.

I love this card! Look at it! What do you think when you see the Ace of Wands? It makes me think of the spark of an idea, a mind on fire. There’s an inner fire and light of inspiration inside each and every one of us. New ideas are lighting a fire in your heart, in your soul, and in your belly.

The Ace of Wands also suggests that all of the energy to bring your ideas to a successful completion is available to you.

So be confident in yourself! You have what it takes to manifest your ideas, and your ideas are good for something.

If you want a big life change but you’ve been himming and hawing about how to make it happen now’s the time to embrace the “one bite at a time” principle. Make a plan, but don’t get overwhelmed by it and burn out before you even get started. Instead, take one small bite out of that plan at a time.

Creating something new is always uncomfortable. It’s so uncomfortable that we often talk ourselves out of doing the work before the idea even has a chance to gestate.

So here’s what you need to do: nurture that spark. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Learn what you need to learn to write that book, paint that picture, or pursue that career. Stop dousing your fire with negative self-doubt.

Hey, maybe somebody in your life spoke very negatively to you and now you’ve internalized that voice. Stop it now by saying “No! I’m not going to talk to myself that way.” Flip the script! If you’re constantly telling yourself you’re lazy and not smart enough, start proving yourself wrong. Get up and do ONE thing, just ONE thing toward a goal.

If you want to be healthy, get up off the couch and go for a walk around your yard, or around the block. Have a glass of water. Choose one healthy snack, like an apple or fruit cup. That’s it. Now you can tell yourself your not lazy, at least for today. Tomorrow? Do it again.

Keeping an ember glowing so you can build it into a roaring fire takes nurturing. You need to channel your inner fire tender. A long, long time ago when man first discovered how to use fire, he didn’t actually know right away how to light the fire himself. So, he would collect fire when say lightning hit a tree.

It was then someone’s job in the tribe to keep that ember burning, to protect it, and keep feeding it so they could use it every night to build a new fire. Then the fire tender would take an ember from that fire and keep it going until the tribe needed to build another fire.

That is your job, to tend your fire, to nurture yourself, and take care of your little flame.
